I am able to connect to sflan9 from 28th and Noriega. The trick for me (1.1 miles away) is to have a powerful enough card to send packets back. I have made a connection with a 100mW card and 5.5dBi omni, but a powerful card (200mW Senao) and a directional antenna really improves the connection. You're a bit closer, so depending on topography, you should get a better connection.

Looking at the SFLAN map, the Sunset could really use it's own node!

Will these 2 items get me connected to sflan9?

What connection speed can you get?

Darth:

Good card. I use the Senao card also. If you're going to make a permanent connection on your roof, you should consider using one of the directional antennas. I haven't used Aerialix, but their stuff looks good. Make sure you get a pigtail to connect to the MMCX port on the card.

I have no association with these companies, but my two favorite are www.hyperlinktech.com and www.fab-corp.com (never hurts to shop around).

My initial trials and details of how I set it up are archived at http://www.archive.org/iathreads/post-view.php?id=7055

Hey Jeff,

Do you think this antenna with RP-SMA Plug connector connected to my 2.4 ghz uniden wireless pci nic will allow me to connect to sflan9?

If this works, it'll be great. I will only need to buy the antenna.

Darth, I've used that 8dBi omni, with good results. Just don't try to use it for wardriving: the magnetic base isn't strong enough. Email me 2007@webdog.com if you're interested in testing it before you buy.
